Lets say I got an odrive folder I am offloading data to the cloud only? I just want to push this stuff to the cloud, when do the files delete / get removed locally? Does it happen the moment they become placeholder files / folders?

Yes, the process of unsync is to delete the local content and replace with a placeholder file. Once the files/folders are turned into placeholders, the local data has been purged.
