I have an external HD synced to ODrive (Dropbox Business) - it’s several TBs, and I want to move to a new external HD, without doing a full sync again.
Is it possible to just copy over the entire ODrive folder as-is to the new HD?
Will that work, or will ODrive somehow recognize it’s a different device, and it’ll confuse it?
Hi @budowski,
If you copy the data to the new drive and the data is exactly like it was (same sizes and modified timestamps) and the drive’s “sync to odrive” folder location is exactly the same (e.g. Z:\MyFolder), then it will be seamless (odrive won’t see a difference).
There is a chance that in the copying the dates could change, though, so it may be better to do the following:
“Remove Sync” on the current drive’s folder.
“Sync to odrive” on the new drive’s folder.
As long as the remote location is the same and the local and remote folders “line-up”, odrive will perform a merge between the local and remote folders and determine if anything needs to be synced. In this case odrive will just compare names and sizes and consider the files synced if the sizes match.
