Cannot install odrive on Windows 10

I’ve tried several times to install odrive (using odrivesync.5203.exe) on Windows 10 but it always fails with error “Setup Failed” then “0x800b0001 - Unknown trust provider”. I have been using “run as Administrator”. It could well be a problem with my Windows set up rather than odrive but I need to be pointed in the right direction to find a solution.

Install log shows:

Hi,
There may be a couple of reasons for this. Have you tried deleting the installer you have on your system and re-downloading from our website? https://www.odrive.com/features/sync

That is the first thing I would try. If that doesn’t work we can move to some next steps.

Thanks!

Hi Tony

Thanks for your quick response.

Yes, I’ve deleted the installer on my system and downloaded it again from your link. (The third time I’ve done this). Sadly still exactly the same result.

Do you know if Windows updater is working? Looking into this, it appears that this type of issue is not uncommon, although it is mostly attributed to windows updates not working. In those cases there are a couple of reasons, but many revolve around incorrect root certificates on the machine.

If you go to Windows update and check for updates, does it seem to work?

Windows updater seems to be working fine for most updates. However, it is having a problem with updating Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime. Maybe I need to try to get that fixed before expecting odrive to install?

Can you do the following for me?
Right-click on the odrivesync.5203.exe file and select properties->Digital Signatures->Details:
Does it show at the top of the General tab:
“Digital Signature Information
This digital signature is OK”?

Next, click on View Certificate and select the “Certification Path” tab. Does the Certificate status show “This certificate is OK” for each of the 3 certificates in the path?

Thanks!

When I right-click on odrivesync.5203.exe and select properties there is no tab for Digital Signatures. The only tabs I see are
| General | Compatibility | Carbonite | Security | Details | Previous Versions |
Could this be because I’m running Windows 10 Home edition rather than Pro or Enterprise?
I have downloaded Mark Russinovich’s sigcheck.exe and run that against odrivesync.5203.exe and that shows:

C:\Users\Nick\Downloads\odrivesync.5203.exe:

Take a look at this article and run through the DISM steps listed under “Resolution” for Windows 10. It may help. It seems that there is something screwy on your system.

Thanks for the link. I’m getting various problems running this, my system clearly is corrupted in places. Once I manage to get my system clean (assuming I will eventually) I’ll have another go at installing odrive. In the meantime many thanks for your help.

OK, I’m half happy. After spending a lot of time googling and trying things to clean my system, I finally did a complete reset of Windows 10 (a real pain as there are a lot of apps I’m going to have to reinstall).

After the reset I’ve been able to install odrive with no problems, so that’s a real plus. Tony, thanks for your help.

The only (extremely frustrating) downside is that when I run sfc /scannow I still keep getting the same list of corrupt files which cannot be repaired, viz fdeploy.dll, fde.dll, gpedit.dll, gptext.dll. It seems I’m not alone in this although seeking help will have to be on a different forum.

Sorry @nick_baggott,
Sounds like a big PITA. I’m glad its getting “mostly” resolved. Also really glad to hear that odrive is working. I suppose you can take solace in the fact that you can upload all of your stuff to the cloud and then feel safe about wiping out that system completely and reinstalling at some point down the road.
