Cannot Browse FTP on OMV/Raspi4 - “You do not have sufficient permissions”

Hello. I have a Raspberry Pi 4 running Open Media Vault and connected to an external 5TB drive. I have enabled FTP on OMV and created a share and users with read/write permissions on that share. I can access the share with FileZilla FTP and directly through Windows using FTP, but odrive will not let me browse the share.

When I linked the FTP serve in odrive’s Manage Storage webUI I got “The FTP server could not validate these credentials” error. I tried various users, FTP, FTPS, Require SSL cert ON and OFF, but the same error always appears. The FTP settings on OMV are the default settings and the FTPS settings currently are:

  • Enable SSL/TLS connections - ON
  • Require FTP over TLS - ON
  • No session reuse required - ON
  • Implicit SSL - OFF

I can see the share in Windows Explorer, but when I double-click it, I get “Unable to sync… You do not have sufficient permissions.”

I saw this thread from 2016 with a similar issue, but I didn’t see any resolution that I could apply to OMV.

Is there some other setting in OMV I need to change to make this work? Or is there an alternative method to connect to odrive using SMB or NFS that I could configure through OMV?

Thanks

Hi @gotg,
Is there a test account you can provide that we can use to debug the issue?

Hi Tony,

My FTP is only on my local network, so I don’t think I can provide a test account that you could access. I would be happy to run some tests if you’re able to show me how.

Hi @gotg,
Got it. In that case it is expected to see a message about not being able validate credentials, since the odrive service cannot access your FTP. You should still be able to access from the desktop client locally, though.

Since it is local, I am guessing that it is not presenting an SSL certificate, so you would just choose the FTP link type and then FTP as the protocol.

You may also need to set a path.

When you access via FileZilla, what path does it end-up placing you in?
Can you also send a diagnostic from the odrive tray menu after adjust the settings, as above?

I did create an SSL cert in OMV and apply that, but I didn’t have success. I’ve changed my oodrive settings to the following:

Still getting the same “don’t have sufficient permissions” error.

In FileZilla, it drops me at the root of the external drive if I don’t specify anything. I can also specify one of the two shared folders on that drive and it will drop me in there.

I sent the diagnostics and that completed successfully.

Thanks!

Stop the press! I forgot to disable SSL/TLS on the OMV FTP service. After disabling, it’s now working!

But I’m not seeing any odrive options in my context menu though.

Great!

For the context menu, try exiting odrive and doing a repair installation with the latest version and see if the menus show-up.

Are you seeing any icon overlays?

I was seeing the overlays, but not the menu items. I uninstalled and reinstalled and now I can see the context menu items. Thanks for all your help, Tony!
