Badges got lost in Finder Mac OS X El Capitan

How can I get back the badges which suddenly got lost?

Hi,
Can you try toggling the odrive extension in the OS X System Preferences -> Extensions and see if that fixes it?

Hi Tony, I tried that - did not solve the problem.

Hello

Can I as you a few questions:

  1. Are you on Sierra beta (I know the ticket says El Capitan but can you reconfirm)?
  2. Is badging missing on all or some folders?
  3. In finder, do you see the infinity icon for the odrive shortcut (left panel)?

Hello Peter

  1. I am on El Capitan
  2. on all folders
  3. Yes, I see the shortcut icon in the left panel

Thanks Lars.

It doesn’t make sense. I’ll ask eng.

In the meantime, try:

  1. restarting your machine
  2. turning off finder extensions for a few minutes before turning it back on

Also, have you installed anything lately that may conflict (like security software)?

I restarted, turned off finder extensions for 10 minutes, but the badges do not appear.

I installed AVG AntiVirus lately, bit I think the badges were still there after I installed AVG. Not 100% sure though.

Have you seen this thread:

The next step is to check the console output. See that thread for instructions. Let me know if that doesn’t make sense.

I am sorry Peter, that goes beyond my understanding. What do I have to search for in the Console?

Yes, it’s not very friendly. We are looking for anything that starts with FinderSyncExtension or odrive. The console has a search box you can use to look for those mentions. Please post any entries you find in the console.

thanks!

Hi @lars.ponti,
It looks like the extensions are loading properly here. Do you still see the right-click menu options when right-clicking on a file in the odrive folder?

Can you post a screenshot of your Finder window open to the odrive folder for me, please?
Can you also switch the Finder view between the icon view (view icon with four small squares) and the listing view (view icon with four lines) and see if it makes any difference?

Since you mentioned installing AVG, can you also try temporarily disabling it to see if there is any effect?

Thanks!

Hi Tony

Right click menu is there, badges are missing. Disabling AVG does not help. Same issue in all views.

Dear Tony and Peter

I now completely uninstalled AVG and the badges are back!

Any experience with a freeware anti virus that does not prevent odrive from working properly?

Thank you for your help!
Lars

Thanks for the update @lars.ponti

We use the FinderSync API that Apple provides for adding our content to Finder. It uses UNIX sockets for communication between the extension and the app. It is possible that AVG was blocking this somehow, although I installed AVG just now and did not see the same issue. Also, it is strange that only badges were affected and not context menus.

I’m not sure on this one. Can you try reinstalling AVG and see if the issue resurfaces (when you get a chance, of course).

Thanks!

Lost the badges again, no idea why. Frustrating experience:disappointed:

Hi @lars.ponti,
You still have the context menu, just not the badges? Does the same steps you took last time bring them back?
